Damascus Reveals Files of Al-Shibani's Meetings with Israeli Delegation in Paris
SadaNews - The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported that Foreign Minister As'ad Al-Shibani met with an Israeli delegation in Paris on Tuesday "to discuss several files related to enhancing stability in the region and southern Syria."
Hebrew Channel 12 commented, saying, "For the first time, Syrian state media announces a meeting between the Syrian foreign minister and an Israeli delegation."
The official agency added that the discussions focused on "de-escalation, non-interference in Syrian internal affairs, reaching understandings that support stability in the region, and monitoring the ceasefire in the Sweida province (southern Syria)."
According to the same source, the meeting also addressed the reactivation of the disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel signed in 1974, which established a buffer zone under UN supervision in the occupied Golan Heights, before Tel Aviv announced the cancellation of its implementation after controlling the buffer zone and encroaching into areas outside it in southern Syria during the past months.
SANA mentioned that what it described as discussions are mediated by the United States, as part of diplomatic efforts aimed at enhancing security and stability in Syria and preserving its territorial integrity and unity.
The Syrian agency did not mention the identities of the Israeli delegation members that Al-Shibani met with in Paris.
However, the Hebrew newspaper Haaretz said that Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer met on Tuesday in Paris with Syrian Foreign Minister As'ad Hassan Al-Shibani to discuss enhancing stability in southern Syria and reducing tensions in the region.
This was the second announced meeting between the two sides in the French capital in less than a month after they agreed in July to continue talks following a failure to reach a final agreement regarding easing tensions in southern Syria.
