The Algerian National Team Qualifies for the Quarter-Finals of the African Nations Cup for Local Players
SadaNews - The Algerian national team has qualified for the quarter-finals of the African Nations Cup for local players held in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda, following a goalless draw against Niger on Monday, concluding the matches of Group C.
The match, held at the "Nyayo National Stadium" in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, was marked by extreme caution, with few scoring opportunities throughout the 90 minutes, despite the field dominance of the Algerians.
Niger concluded the match with ten players after midfielder Ibrahim Jengari was sent off in the 77th minute for receiving a second yellow card, yet Algeria did not take advantage of the numerical superiority and nearly conceded a late goal but for the goalkeeper's intervention.
The "Greens" raised their points to 6 from one win and 3 draws, placing them second in Group C on goal difference from South Africa, which finished third and exited the tournament, while Niger was eliminated in the previous round.
The group was topped by the Ugandan team, which accumulated seven points after drawing 3-3 with South Africa in the final third round.
With this qualification, the Algerian team awaits the quarter-final match against the top team from Group D, which includes Sudan, Senegal, the Republic of Congo, and Nigeria.
