Iran Announces Continuation of Talks with the International Atomic Energy Agency
SadaNews - The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baqaei, stated that Tehran will continue discussions with the United Nations' International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
Baqaei explained to official media that the two parties are expected to hold another round of negotiations in the coming days.
IAEA inspectors have not been able to access Iranian nuclear sites since they were bombed by Israel and the United States during a 12-day war last June.
Baqaei stated that Tehran and the IAEA held talks last week "and these talks will continue, with another round of discussions between Iran and the agency likely to take place in the coming days."
Preparations for War
Tehran accuses the agency of effectively paving the way for US-Israeli attacks following a report released on May 31, which led the IAEA's Board of Governors to declare that Iran was violating its non-proliferation obligations.
Iran denies Western suspicions of secretly seeking to develop nuclear weapon capabilities, asserting its commitment to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty which stipulates the peaceful uses of atomic energy for its signatories.
Baqaei confirmed the changing level of relations between Tehran and the IAEA, but said that the two sides have maintained direct communication.
It is noteworthy that Iran enacted a law last month to suspend cooperation with the agency.
The law stipulates that any future inspections of Iranian nuclear sites require the approval of the Supreme National Security Council in Tehran.
