Jordan Announces the Reinstatement of the National Service Program Soon

SadaNews - Jordan's Crown Prince, Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II, announced today, Sunday, the imminent reinstatement of the National Service Program during a meeting with a group of young men and women in Irbid Governorate.

The National Service in Jordan is a mandatory military service for Jordanian males, aimed at preparing and qualifying young people to engage in productive and national life. It is organized under the National Service and Reserve Service Law, and includes military and professional training.

The Crown Prince confirmed that the goal of the program is to "prepare youth to serve and defend the homeland," pointing out that "the experience enhances national identity, solidifies young people's connection to their land, and serves to refine their character and discipline," especially as youth accompany the Jordanian Armed Forces during the service period.

He noted that he had directed the government some time ago to work with partners to develop the National Service Program according to a clear timeline, so that it undergoes a series of procedures before announcing its details.

Prince Hussein bin Abdullah II emphasized that the details of the "new National Service" program will be announced in a joint press conference between the Jordanian Army and the government.

The old National Service law in Jordan mandates that every Jordanian male aged between 18 and 40 years serve for a period ranging from one to two years, after which they transition to reserve service for five years, and then to the popular army. Those who are the sole providers for their families or who are medically unfit are exempt from service, whereas students aged between 18 and 28 may defer service if there is no available capacity in the army.
