Why Did Salah Cry in Liverpool's Victory Over Bournemouth?
SadaNews - Tears flowed from the Egyptian star Mohamed Salah following his team's Liverpool match against Bournemouth on Friday at Anfield, in the season opener of the English Premier League.
The match was emotional for Liverpool fans and players who honored their late teammate, Portuguese Diogo Jota, before and after the game.
Footage showed Salah, who scored a goal in the 4-2 victory, crying at the end of the match, as the Egyptian star appeared to be moved by the fans' chants for the late Jota.
Before the match, Liverpool fans sang their famous song "You'll Never Walk Alone" and raised flags bearing Jota's image, while the players gathered in a circle at the center of the pitch. At the final whistle, the fans sang the name of the late Portuguese once again.
Everyone observed a minute of silence, while Liverpool fans held up a banner in green, red, and white that read "DJ20" in reference to Jota and his shirt number with Liverpool.
Jota and his brother André Silva died on July 3 in a car accident in northern Spain, just 11 days after the former Liverpool player married his partner and mother of his children, and following a season in which he celebrated winning the league with Liverpool and the UEFA Nations League with Portugal.
Liverpool supporters also held up a banner that read "Roti, Denis, Duarte, Mafalda, Anfield will always be your home, you'll never walk alone" as a message to Jota's family.
