Katz: After October 7, there is no longer any room for an army that is not under supervision
SadaNews: Israeli Minister of Defense Yoav Katz stated, "After the October 7 attack, there is no longer any room for an army that is not under monitoring and supervision."
He added: I continue to guide the army regarding the activation of forces on various fronts according to a clear offensive policy.
He continued: "As the Minister of Defense, I will continue to closely monitor and direct the army and the security institution."
He stated: I am continuing to guide the army closely regarding force building and overseeing the appointment area.
Katz added: "The Minister of Defense is responsible for approving appointments from the rank of colonel and above, and the Chief of Staff is the one who recommends."
He said he is "proud of the appointments he has approved in the army leadership after October 7 and plans to continue in this manner."
He pointed out that "attempts to change procedures by listening to the advice of consultants opposed to the government and imposing a fait accompli will not succeed."
He added: "The damage inflicted on army officers due to the policy of listening to advice from government opponents is negative and regrettable."
Tensions have recently escalated between Katz and Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir over appointments in the army that were not mutually agreed upon.
Although the current confrontation stems from the appointment crisis, Israeli media see the true nature of the crisis between them as a power struggle over control of the army.
Haaretz reported the Chief of Staff of the Israeli army stating, "The disagreement with the Minister of Defense is not about the officers' appointments but rather my refusal to attack Gaza."
