
New Zealand: We Are Considering Recognizing a Palestinian State
SadaNews - New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters stated on Monday that New Zealand is considering recognizing a Palestinian state.
Peters added that the government of Prime Minister Christopher Luxon will make an official decision in September and will outline its approach during the UN Leaders' Week.
This decision comes in the context of a growing wave of Western and European recognitions of the state of Palestine, as countries like France, Britain, and Canada have recently announced their intention to recognize it, amid ongoing Israeli military operations in Gaza for nearly two years, which erupted following the "Al-Aqsa Flood" operation carried out by Hamas.
More than 140 of the 193 UN member states already recognize the Palestinian state, including Spain and Ireland, both of which are EU member states.
