Start of Voting Process in the 2025 Senate Elections in Egypt
SadaNews - Today, Monday, the voting process in the 2025 Senate elections has started in Egypt, which is considered the second legislative chamber in the country alongside the House of Representatives, according to news sources.
The elections will take place over two days, Monday and Tuesday, to select only 200 members from a total of 300 members in the Senate, while the Egyptian president appoints 100 members of the council.
In the two-day election, 424 candidates are competing for 100 seats designated for the individual system, including 183 independent candidates and 241 others representing various political parties.
According to the electoral system, 100 seats are elected through closed lists, with only one list running, which is the National List for Egypt made up of an alliance of several parties.
According to statistics from the National Election Authority, around 63 million eligible voters registered in the database can vote in the 2025 Senate elections, distributed across 8,286 polling stations in schools, health units, and youth centers, under judicial supervision from the Administrative Prosecution and State Litigation Authority, with the participation of 9,500 judges.
