Russian Foreign Ministry: Our recognition of the State of Palestine contributed to maintaining the possibility of a two-state solution
SadaNews - Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin stated that Russia's recognition of the State of Palestine contributed to maintaining the possibility of a two-state solution for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
He added in a press statement that Russia has developed its relationship with Palestine, and the Embassy of Palestine in Moscow has been operational since 1990.
Vershinin continued: "The two-state solution remains the most reliable and only option to resolve this long-standing conflict, and Russia has always called for achieving a lasting settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict based on known international law."
He called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, noting that Russia raised this issue during bilateral meetings with participants in the high-level international conference to support the resolution of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Vershinin said: "We met with many participants at this conference, including representatives from the United Nations, particularly Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and we discussed the two-state solution and how we can best achieve real and just peace in the Middle East. This is a strategic goal, and the urgent task is to stop the bloodshed, which unfortunately is happening today, especially in the Gaza Strip, with a significant number of casualties and severe suffering for the civilian population."
