Update - Fatalities in Armed Attack in Manhattan, New York
SadaNews - At least 4 people, including a police officer, were killed in a shooting incident that occurred inside an office building in Manhattan, New York, which houses some of the country's largest financial institutions.
A security official told CNN that "4 people, one of them a member of the New York Police, were killed" in the incident, noting that the shooter apparently died by shooting himself, while the New York Post reported that the gunman killed 5 people.
The Associated Press reported that sources indicated the assailant was identified as Shane Tamura from Nevada, mentioning that law enforcement found personal documents in his possession, including a concealed carry permit issued from Las Vegas.
CNN reported that Shane Tamura, the man who killed four people in Manhattan last night before taking his own life, had left a note in his pocket before his death stating that he suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE), a degenerative brain disease resulting from multiple head impacts, common among American football players. Tamura, a former football player, expressed his desire to have his brain studied after his death. Other media outlets reported that he attempted to destroy the offices of the NFL in Manhattan last night, according to SadaNews translation.
