Peskov: Military Operation Goals Must Be Achieved Before Defining Future Relations Principles
SadaNews - Spokesman for the Kremlin Dmitry Peskov stated that the goals of the military operation must first be achieved before embarking on defining the principles of future relations between Moscow and Kyiv.
This came in response to a journalist's question regarding the recent round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations in Istanbul, asking whether Moscow has a vision for the principles upon which it would build its relations with Kyiv "after the victory."
Peskov described this question as "very theoretical," stating: "The problem (with Ukraine) must first be resolved before considering how to build relations (with it in the future); we need to ensure that the tasks set for the special military operation are being fulfilled."
He added: "We prefer to do it through diplomatic political means, and the special military operation continues under circumstances where these means have become impossible, as all dialogue proposals have been rejected - both from Ukraine itself and from the Westerners."
He further stated: "If we can transition to a diplomatic settlement path, that would be our preferred option."
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that the outcome Russia needs from the special military operation is the removal of the causes that led to the crisis and the creation of conditions for achieving lasting peace and ensuring Russia's security.
