PLO Executive Committee Holds Meeting to Discuss Political and Organizational Files

SadaNews - The Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization held a meeting the night before last, chaired by Deputy Chairman Hussein al-Sheikh, where it discussed a number of important political and organizational issues, most notably the preparations for convening the Palestinian National Council, the issue of clearance funds, and the escalating Israeli violations.

At the beginning of the meeting, the committee listened to a report presented by the Chairman of the Palestinian National Council, Ruhi Fattouh, on the ongoing efforts to hold a new session of the National Council, with a deadline of the end of 2025, based on the approved law for the National Council, which specifies the number of members at 350, including 200 from inside the homeland and 150 from abroad.
In this context, the Executive Committee decided to form a preparatory committee headed by the Chairman of the National Council, with members from the Executive Committee, national action factions, popular organizations, and civil society, in addition to figures from Palestinian communities abroad.

The committee also reviewed reports on the communications conducted by the Palestinian leadership with several Arab and international parties, amid the ongoing Israeli occupation's continuous aggression against our people in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, accompanied by serious violations that include land confiscation, forced displacement operations, repeated incursions, and the detention of Palestinian clearance funds.
The committee emphasized the necessity of intensified political and diplomatic action to restore these funds, rejecting the extortion policies practiced by the Israeli government to push the national authority towards collapse, stressing the demand for the United States and France to assume their responsibilities and pressure Israel to immediately release the Palestinian dues.

The committee also discussed the lawsuits filed against the PLO by Israeli parties, and decided to form a special committee from its members to follow up on this issue in coordination with the legal team authorized by the organization.

On the organizational front, the meeting addressed the draft internal regulations of the Executive Committee, and an internal committee was formed to study the proposals submitted regarding it, with the final version to be presented at the next meeting for formal approval.

Regarding the prisoners' issue, the committee conveyed its salute of pride and honor to our brave prisoners in the occupation's prisons, calling on the masses of our people in the homeland and diaspora to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with Prisoners, and to mobilize at all legal and humanitarian levels to garner international support for their cause, and to demand protection for them in accordance with the provisions of international humanitarian law.

The Executive Committee also emphasized the importance of enhancing the resilience of citizens in the face of settler attacks, and called for the formation of popular protection committees in villages, camps, and farms to confront attempts of forced displacement and settlement policies.

The meeting concluded with a special report on the conditions of the Palestinian Red Crescent Society branch in Jerusalem, presented by the committee assigned to follow up on this issue, where a series of measures were decided to ensure a return to normalcy in accordance with the laws and internal regulations of the society.
