President Abbas condemns the Israeli bombing of the Latin Convent Church in Gaza
SadaNews - Today, Friday, Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas condemned the bombing of the Latin Convent Church in Gaza by Israeli occupation forces yesterday, Thursday. He also expressed his condolences to the Latin Patriarch of Jerusalem, Cardinal Pierbattista Pizzaballa, in a phone call, following the martyrdom of three citizens and the injury of more than ten others due to the occupation's bombing of the church, which was also sheltering 600 displaced persons.
President Abbas emphasized the importance of preserving holy sites and working to protect and enhance the authentic Christian presence in Palestine.
The President also checked on the health status of the church's pastor, Gabriele Romanelli, in a phone call following the injury he sustained due to the bombing by the occupation.
He considered this targeting to represent a very dangerous development in the series of escalating attacks on Christian and Islamic sanctities and on the Palestinian people as a whole, revealing a systematic policy of impunity that affects both civilians and places of worship simultaneously, without any regard for international conventions or humanitarian and religious values.
The President called on the international community and mediators to expedite the cessation and sustainability of the ceasefire, the release of hostages and prisoners, the entry of humanitarian aid, the complete withdrawal of the occupation forces, and the full assumption of responsibilities by the State of Palestine in the sector, assisting displaced persons to return to their areas, providing them with basic services, and moving towards a reconstruction process and a political process that ends the occupation of all the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international legitimacy decisions.
