Mourning in Iraq after 50 people die in a fire at a shopping center
SadaNews - Iraq declared three days of mourning for the souls of the victims of the massive fire at the shopping center in the center of Al-Kut city, south of Baghdad, which resulted in about 50 fatalities.
The governor of Wasit, Mohammed Jamil Al-Miyahi, stated in a post on his Facebook page, "We lost approximately 50 individuals, including men, women, and children" in the fire. He confirmed that "local authorities have begun to file lawsuits against the building owner and the mall, as well as anyone else involved."
He added that "the relevant authorities are continuing to investigate the causes of the fire, and preliminary results will be announced within 48 hours to the public with complete transparency."
The Wasit Police Command announced a full mobilization of civil defense teams in the governorate to extinguish the fire at the "Corniche Hypermarket."
