Hebrew Newspaper: Israel Decides to Transfer Responsibilities for the Ibrahimi Mosque to a Settler Religious Council Instead of the Palestinian Hebron Municipality

Translation by SadaNews - The Hebrew newspaper Yisrael Hayom revealed on Tuesday evening that Israel has decided to transfer the responsibilities of the Palestinian Hebron Municipality regarding the Ibrahimi Mosque to the benefit of the Jewish religious council in Hebron situated in the Kiryat Arba settlement.

According to the newspaper's website in a report published this evening, as translated by SadaNews, the aim is to bolster structural changes within the Ibrahimi Mosque.

This step is considered unprecedented and dramatic for settlement, aiming to bring about significant changes to the current situation at the Ibrahimi Mosque.

The report noted that this is the first time a decision has been made to implement substantial changes at the Ibrahimi Mosque since the Shmgar Committee decisions in 1994.

The newspaper stated: The civil administration, in cooperation with the Jewish religious council, has long sought to make fundamental changes at the Ibrahimi Mosque, including re-roofing the mosque and building a roof over the Jacob Square, where Jews pray 90% of the year. An advanced fire extinguishing system will also be installed, along with other measures, including the capability for Israeli authorities to monitor cameras within the mosque.

During a discussion held on Monday, chaired by Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant for the civil administration authority, steps were taken to overcome a legal obstacle that had prevented the transfer of authority from the Hebron Municipality and the endowments to the religious council of the settlers in Hebron.

For the first time, the authority over the Ibrahimi Mosque is being transferred from the Hebron Municipality and the civil administration to the Kiryat Arba Council.
