Ovechkin Honored with a Luxurious Gift for Breaking a Record in the American League
SadaNews - Russian star Alexander Ovechkin, captain of the Washington Capitals, received special recognition during his participation in the "Game of the Year," celebrating his breaking of one of the most significant records in the history of the American Hockey League.
The organizing committee presented him with a Jetour T2 car, which was introduced in a striking manner, as it was brought onto the ice rink just before the match started, amidst the applause of the fans.
The "Game of the Year," which featured stars from the American League against their counterparts from the Russian league, took place yesterday, Sunday, and ended with a crushing victory for the American team with a score of 15-3, in front of a large audience.
Ovechkin, aged 39, broke the previous record for the most goals in the history of the National Hockey League (NHL) last season, which had stood for decades and was held by the Canadian-American legend Wayne Gretzky, as the Russian player needed 1,487 games to achieve this feat.
Ovechkin scored his 895th goal during his team's match against the New York Islanders on April 6.
Ovechkin is now the only player who holds the title of all-time top scorer in regular leagues.
It is noteworthy that Wayne Gretzky set his record in 1,487 regular-season games in the National Hockey League, which is the same number of games Ovechkin has played so far in his professional career.
Since his first appearance in the NHL with the "Washington Capitals" in 2005, the Russian star has only left the team for a short period during the 2012-2013 season, during which he returned to his mother team Dynamo Moscow.
Ovechkin is now in his twentieth season in the National Hockey League.
He significantly contributed to the Washington Capitals winning the Stanley Cup title in 2018, being a three-time world champion with the Russian national team.
