Trump: We Hope to Resolve the Gaza Crisis and Achieve a Deal Within the Next Week
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump did not rule out the possibility of resolving the situation in the Gaza Strip within a week, in a statement he made on July 13 while speaking to reporters at Andrews military base near Washington.
In response to a question about the progress of negotiations regarding a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Trump said: "Negotiations are taking place regarding Gaza, and I hope we can reach an agreement within the next week. Let's see what happens later."
Last Wednesday evening, Trump indicated that there is a "very large opportunity" to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip in the coming days.
Trump explained that he discussed this issue with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who visited Washington for the second time.
The U.S. President added in statements to reporters: "Nothing is certain in wars, whether in Gaza or elsewhere we are dealing with, but I believe there is a possibility for an agreement this week, and if that does not happen, then maybe next week."
American and Israeli sources revealed that President Trump applied "significant pressure" on Netanyahu during their second meeting at the White House on Tuesday to accept a ceasefire in Gaza.
According to Trump's statements, the meeting, which was held in the Oval Office on Tuesday evening, was almost entirely focused on the war in Gaza. He said: "Gaza is a tragedy. We need to find a solution for it. I want that, Netanyahu wants that, and I believe the other side wants it too."
On July 6, negotiations between Hamas and Israel resumed in Doha, mediated by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States, aiming to reach an agreement over a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip and the release of Israeli hostages held there.
