"To Limit Weapons to the State in Lebanon".. Barak Comments "The Government Gave Us a Wonderful Response to the Proposed Paper"

SadaNews - U.S. envoy Tom Barak announced that "the Lebanese government delivered a wonderful response to Washington regarding the proposed paper" to limit weapons to the state in Lebanon.

Barak stated in a statement after his meeting with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun at Baabda Palace: "I received the Lebanese response to the American proposal and I feel a great sense of hope, as the Lebanese government gave us a wonderful response to the proposed paper, and it was also very responsible," announcing "that we are in the process of formulating a plan for the future in Lebanon."

He emphasized that "Lebanon must deal with Hezbollah and not the United States," reminding that U.S. President Donald Trump affirmed his commitment to contribute to building Lebanon, believing that Lebanon is still the key to peace in the region.

He explained that "Lebanon does not need to commit to any timetable as it tries to reach a formula for what it wants, and then we as Americans will help with that," questioning: "Do you think the U.S. or France will come to resolve Hezbollah, which is a political team in Lebanon? This is a Lebanese matter, and it is for the Lebanese to deal with it."

Barak added: "The opportunity is now available for the Lebanese to make their country the pearl of the East again," announcing that "there is a ripe opportunity for peace between Lebanon and Israel, and Hezbollah must understand that it has an opportunity for peace."

He continued, saying: "Lebanon must learn from the lessons of the Taif Agreement," pointing out that "dialogue between Syria and Israel has begun, and everyone is racing to reach an agreement."

He stressed that "we want to stop hostilities on the Syrian-Israeli border."
