Zakharova: Dialogue with Washington Continues, Responsibility Lies with Biden and Obama
SadaNews - Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, stated that a date for a new round of Russian-American talks has not yet been set.
Zakharova indicated that two rounds of consultations regarding the reasons for the tension in Russian-American relations have been held so far, and a third round was planned, but "the American side postponed it."
She added: "I can say that naturally not all the desired outcomes have been achieved because a lot was destroyed during the terms of Biden and Obama. Therefore, there were some preliminary and temporary results, and some problems could have been solved, but there is still much more to be done."
She continued: "There is currently no specific date for the consultations, but I can say that there is ongoing dialogue between the Russian Embassy in Washington and the State Department, and communications are continuing here in Moscow."
Zakharova concluded by saying: "Russia and the United States have never severed official diplomatic relations, and the previous administrations of the Democratic Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama 'did their utmost to ensure that the Russian embassies, consulates, and commercial missions, as well as the operation of Russian media, faced extreme difficulty.'"
It is worth noting that President Vladimir Putin had a conversation with his American counterpart Donald Trump on July 3 that lasted nearly an hour.
The Russian president reaffirmed Moscow's readiness to continue negotiations.
