After Court Altercations.. Suspension of the Session for Appointing the Head of the Shin Bet
SadaNews - The Israeli Supreme Court has decided to suspend the session to appoint the new head of the Shin Bet due to conflicting positions among those present.
In his comments, Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir stated that the authority to appoint the head of the Shin Bet General Security Service is exclusively within the hands of the Israeli government.
Israeli media revealed the reason for the suspension of the session to appoint the head of the Shin Bet, stating that the Supreme Court judges suspended the session after an intervention by a Knesset member and a shouting incident occurred.
It continued: "The court judges are halting the session regarding the petitions for appointing the head of the Shin Bet after altercations in the court."
The Israeli Minister of Transportation stated that David Zini will be the head of the Shin Bet and that the Supreme Court session is unnecessary and exceeds its authority.
David Zini is a major general in the Israeli army, born in 1974 in Jerusalem, and began his military career in 1992 within the "Sayeret Matkal" unit. In July 2015, he was tasked with establishing the "Otzma" commando brigade and became its first commander until 2017. In June 2023, he was promoted to the rank of major general.
In May 2025, the office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the appointment of David Zini as the head of the internal security service (Shin Bet), succeeding Ronen Bar, but the decision faced criticism from the government's legal advisor, Gali Baharav-Miara, and from leaders in the Israeli army.
