A Security Deal Looms on the Horizon... Will It Open the Door for Normalization Between Damascus and Tel Aviv?
SadaNews: Information has emerged indicating an unannounced diplomatic and security movement between Syria and Israel, amid escalating security challenges in the Middle East in general, and southern Syria in particular, reflecting notable maneuvers that could reshape the lines of contact and alliances in the region.
In this context, Channel 12 cited that unannounced negotiations are taking place between Israel and Syria concerning a potential security agreement, which allegedly includes three key points.
The first point, according to the channel, is the update of the disengagement agreement signed in 1974, which followed the October War, to align with the current developments on the ground.
Regarding the second point, it stated: "Joint security and intelligence coordination between Damascus and Tel Aviv against Iranian expansion and Hezbollah's activity in southern Syria, amid claims of attempts to establish armed cells there."
It also discussed a potential recognition from the Israeli side of Syria's sovereignty over the Shebaa Farms area.
The report noted that there is a possibility of concluding a trilateral agreement that includes Jordan, focusing on the management and distribution of the vital Yarmouk River Basin waters.
