Ministry of National Economy Organizes Workshop on Competition Law

SadaNews - The Ministry of National Economy, in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme/Project Assistance to the Palestinian People (UNDP/PAPP), and as part of the "Strengthening Business Frameworks and Human Rights in Palestine (SBHRP)" project, organized a workshop today, Monday, on the Palestinian Competition Law, aimed at introducing the provisions of the law and its implications for the business environment across various economic sectors.

Minister of National Economy, Mohammad Al-Amour, affirmed that the Competition Law contributes to the development of the national economy based on principles of transparency, economic freedom, and equal opportunities, noting that it provides a legislative environment regulating the Palestinian economy and enhances governance rules to ensure the interests of all parties and achieve economic justice.

The minister added that the law came into effect on 27/11/2025, and a competition committee has been formed to undertake the task of shaping policies aimed at enhancing the dynamism of the national economy, in light of existing economic challenges, based on principles of governance, transparency, and justice.

For his part, the UNDP Special Representative, Jacques Cilliers, stated that this workshop is being held at a time when promoting fair and transparent markets is more important than ever, emphasizing the programme's support for efforts aiming to develop a competitive and sustainable economic environment.

The workshop included presentations and discussions focused on the relationship between human rights and competition, the importance of adopting a competition policy and law on the national economy and society, in addition to reviewing competition management mechanisms and related executive procedures.

Representatives from both the public and private sectors participated in the workshop, along with the Palestine Exchange and the Palestinian Monetary Authority, as part of efforts to enhance dialogue around developing the business environment and entrenching principles of fair competition.
