Public Prosecution Intensifies Monitoring and Accountability Measures Ahead of Ramadan to Protect Consumers and Food Security
SadaNews Economy - As part of the preparations for the blessed month of Ramadan, the Public Prosecution held an extensive meeting chaired by the Head of the Economic and Environmental Crimes Prosecution, Mr. Ashraf Mishael, with the participation of representatives from the legal department of the customs authority, the Director General of Consumer Protection at the Ministry of National Economy, the Director General of Agricultural Supervision at the Ministry of Agriculture, the Director General of Primary Health Care, Private Medicine, Pharmaceutical Supervision, Environmental Health, and Pharmaceutical Licensing, in addition to the legal department of the Ministry of Health.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached to intensify joint monitoring and inspection efforts, and to expedite referral procedures and legal accountability for violators, particularly in cases related to commercial fraud, the hoarding of goods, price manipulation, and the trading of food or pharmaceutical products that do not meet specifications or are expired.
The Public Prosecution emphasized that it will deal firmly and in accordance with the law with any practices that affect public health or exploit citizens' needs, stressing that the protection of consumers and the safeguarding of food and pharmaceutical security are top priorities, especially during seasons that witness increased demand and consumption.
