Revelation of Israeli Compensation Claims Against the Authority Due to Vehicle Theft
SadaNews Economy Translation - Phoenix, the largest insurance company in Israel by value, has filed a lawsuit in the Jerusalem Magistrate's Court against the Palestinian Authority, demanding compensation of 550 million shekels.
According to the company, as reported by the Hebrew economic newspaper Calcalist, the Authority is responsible for the damages resulting from the theft of approximately 6000 vehicles between 2018 and 2025, according to the translation from SadaNews Economy.
The company alleged that the Palestinian Authority is violating its obligations under the Oslo Accords, which include protecting Israeli property, accusing the Authority of cooperating with the vehicle theft sector.
The company has explicitly requested a temporary injunction on the funds of the Palestinian Authority held by Israel, to ensure enforcement of the court ruling in the lawsuit it filed.
This is the second lawsuit of its kind, as revealed by Calcalist, stating that the Minora Meitachim insurance company filed a lawsuit in 2025 demanding compensation of 250 million shekels against the Palestinian Authority, based on a similar claim related to vehicle thefts by residents of the Authority's areas.
