Signing of an agreement worth 480,000 euros to improve water and sanitation conditions in 22 refugee camps

SadaNews - The Minister of Finance and Planning, Dr. Istifan Salama, and the member of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organization, head of the Department of Refugee Affairs, Dr. Ahmed Abu Holi, signed an agreement for the project "Developing Strategic Interventions to Improve Water and Sanitation Services in Palestinian Refugee Camps," with funding from the European Union amounting to approximately 480,000 euros.

The project, which will be implemented by the Department of Refugee Affairs, aims to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the state of water and sanitation services in 22 Palestinian refugee camps, analyze the efficiency and sustainability of their management, and identify developmental needs and existing gaps.

Both sides emphasized during the signing that the issue of refugees constitutes a national, political, and humanitarian priority for the Palestinian leadership and government, stressing that improving the level of basic services provided to refugees, foremost among them water and sanitation services, is an integral part of the commitment to their rights and enhances their resilience and preserves their human dignity.

Dr. Salama appreciated the ongoing support provided by the European Union to the State of Palestine, particularly in vital sectors, confirming that the funding of this project reflects a steadfast commitment to improving the living conditions of refugees and supporting national efforts to develop basic services.

For his part, Dr. Abu Holi clarified that the project's outputs will enhance evidence-based planning and guide future investments in the water and sanitation sectors in the camps, which will positively impact public health and the environment, and strengthen integration and coordination among relevant national institutions.

It is worth noting that this project paves the way for implementing sustainable infrastructure projects that directly contribute to improving the quality of life for Palestinian refugees.
