Sharp Decline in Consumer Goods Prices in Gaza Strip Last Month

SadaNews - The Central Bureau of Statistics reported that the prices of consumer goods in the Gaza Strip experienced a sharp decline during the month of November, marking the second consecutive month of decline since the announcement of the ceasefire.

In a statement issued today, Sunday, the "Statistics" office clarified that this decline caused the consumer price index to register a sharp drop of 34.70% in the Gaza Strip, compared to October 2025. The index also recorded a decrease in Jerusalem of 0.63% and a slight decline of 0.03% in the West Bank, leading to an overall decline of 15.45% in the general consumer price index in Palestine.

It was indicated that price levels are generally experiencing severe fluctuations between rises and falls in the Gaza Strip, linked to developments in Israeli aggression and the flow of trade crossings, and are not a result of changes driven by market dynamics. Consequently, their impact on the overall price index for the Palestinian territories is significant.

The office emphasized that these data should be considered when reviewing the cost of living index, and that attention should be focused on changes in the cost of living at the regional level to grasp the reality of the changes occurring. Given the specifics of this exceptional phase, the average overall price index for the Palestinian territories cannot be used to represent average changes across different areas due to the sharp geographical variance in data and its substantial influence by price changes in the Gaza Strip.

Data comparing prices during November 2025 with November 2024 reveals a decline in the consumer price index in Palestine by 38.90%, (with a drop of 65.09% in the Gaza Strip, and a decrease of 0.15% in the West Bank, while the index rose by 1.94% in Jerusalem).

For the fourth consecutive month, the consumer price index in the Gaza Strip recorded a sharp decline of 34.70% last month compared to the previous month.

The consumer price index in Jerusalem recorded a decrease of 0.63% during the observed month, compared to the previous month, due to a decrease in the prices of fresh vegetables by 11.99%, fresh fruits by 6.63%, liquid fuels used as vehicle fuel "diesel" by 2.25%, "gasoline" by 1.97%, and short-grain rice by 1.50%.

The consumer price index in the West Bank also recorded a slight decrease of 0.03%. This is attributed to a decrease in the prices of potatoes by 4.45%, fresh vegetables by 3.59%, eggs by 3.40%, fresh fruits by 3.23%, liquid fuels used as vehicle fuel "gasoline" by 2.18%, and "diesel" by 1.01%, as well as a decrease in sugar prices by 1.08%.

The Central Bureau of Statistics highlighted that the decline in prices of basic goods in the Gaza Strip caused the overall consumer price index to record a decline of 15.45% in Palestine during the observed month.
