Hebrew Channel: Netanyahu Asked the Governor of the Bank of Israel to Lower Interest Rates, Angering the Governor
SadaNews Economy Translation - The Hebrew channel Reshet Kan reported this Thursday evening that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu requested the Governor of the Bank of Israel, Amir Yaron, to work on lowering the interest rate, which angered the governor due to interference in his affairs.
According to the Hebrew channel, as translated by Sada News Economics Department, Netanyahu told the governor that he does not want to set the interest rate but recommends him to lower it to at least a similar level to the American rate.
It noted that other ministers intervened and demanded the governor to lower the interest rate.
According to the channel, Yaron was upset and stressed that the government has no right to intervene in the decisions of the Bank of Israel regarding the interest rate.
Netanyahu stated that he understands the separation of powers but this does not prevent him from expressing his opinion.
