Telecommunications Regulatory Authority Launches New 1 Gbps Internet Speed in Palestine

SadaNews - As part of its ongoing efforts to develop the telecommunications sector and enhance digital transformation in the State of Palestine, the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has announced the launch of a new internet speed of 1 gigabit per second through internet service providers. This is part of a national plan aimed at improving the quality of internet services and expanding the coverage of fiber optic networks across various Palestinian governorates.

The Authority confirmed that this step represents a qualitative leap in the digital infrastructure and contributes to empowering government institutions, the private sector, and citizens to benefit from modern digital services, including e-learning, digital health services, e-payment systems, remote work, and online government services.

In this context, the Authority clarified that a number of internet service providers in Palestine have already begun launching speeds of up to 1 gigabit per second as part of their services via fiber optic networks, in their efforts to enhance their offerings and improve subscriber experience.

The Authority expressed its appreciation for the efforts of all companies operating in the Palestinian market and their responsiveness to the requirements of technological advancement. It also called for continued efforts to expand service reach and ensure fair competition while providing diverse options and high quality for consumers.

Eng. Laith Draghmeh, the Executive Director of the Authority, stated that the launch of these new speeds is the culmination of ongoing efforts to regulate the market, enhance competition, and encourage investment in fiber networks, ensuring improved service quality and expanded coverage in both urban and rural areas.

He added that the Authority will monitor the implementation of this step by establishing clear service quality controls and standards that ensure subscribers receive the actual contracted speeds and obligate service providers to deliver reliable performance consistent with international standards.

Providing speeds of up to 1 gigabit will enhance Palestine's position within the global digital economy and support the transition towards a fully integrated digital society through:

 • Empowering entrepreneurial projects and startups in programming and modern technology fields.
 • Enhancing applications of artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and smart cities.
 • Supporting digital education and high-quality local content.
 • Improving the work environment in institutions by enhancing flexibility and productivity.

The Authority concluded its statement by emphasizing that this initiative is part of its vision to build a modern, sustainable, and secure telecommunications sector that serves as a lever for economic and social development in Palestine, and that it will continue to work with local and international partners to provide the best digital experiences for Palestinian citizens.
