Continued Sharp Contraction in the Palestinian Economy During the Second Quarter of 2025

SadaNews - The Central Bureau of Statistics announced the continued sharp contraction in the Palestinian economy during the second quarter of 2025, compared to the same quarter of 2023, which preceded the ongoing aggression of the Israeli occupation against Palestine. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in Palestine recorded a sharp decline of 29% during the same period, despite its increase compared to the same quarter of 2024.

The "statistics" clarified, in a report issued today, Monday, about the main results of the quarterly national accounts for the second quarter of 2025, that preliminary estimates indicate a sharp decline in the GDP in Palestine during the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of 2023. Most economic activities in Palestine recorded a sharp decline in added value; the construction activity in Palestine recorded a decrease of 41%, with (29% in the West Bank, 98% in the Gaza Strip), while the mining, manufacturing, and water and electricity sectors decreased by 29% with (22% in the West Bank, 94% in the Gaza Strip). The agriculture, forestry, and fishing activities saw a decrease of 29% with (11% in the West Bank, 93% in the Gaza Strip), and wholesale and retail trade decreased by 24% with (14% in the West Bank, 91% in the Gaza Strip).

In contrast, most economic activities in Palestine witnessed an increase compared to the same quarter of 2024. The GDP value during the second quarter of 2025 in the West Bank reached 2,757 million US dollars, while in the Gaza Strip it amounted to 82 million US dollars.

The per capita GDP in Palestine at constant prices was 531 US dollars during the second quarter of 2025, reflecting a decrease of 32% in per capita GDP in Palestine during the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of 2023, with (21% in the West Bank, 88% in the Gaza Strip).

Conversely, the per capita GDP in Palestine recorded an increase during the second quarter of 2025 compared to the same quarter of 2024.
