Britain Commits Additional Humanitarian Support for Gaza Worth £8.5 Million

Sada News - The United Kingdom announced today the provision of additional funding for the Gaza Strip, which could reach thousands of civilians who are in urgent need in Gaza, if Israel allows the UN and other agencies to operate at the required scope.

This announcement comes after the Israeli Security Cabinet approved a plan to escalate military operations in Gaza, which the British Prime Minister warned would not contribute anything to ending the conflict.

The announced funding of £8.5 million will be provided through the Humanitarian Fund for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, managed by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, which aims to deliver aid such as food, water, and fuel to the areas in greatest need in Gaza.

The British support, provided through the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, will supply vital healthcare supplies, food, and cash assistance to over 750,000 Palestinians throughout the conflict. The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs has worked in the healthcare sector in general, including providing fuel to hospitals and medicines, benefiting approximately one million people.
However, the UN agency warns that its work faces systematic obstacles, despite its utmost efforts to coordinate and provide the urgently needed aid.

International Development Secretary, Geni Chapman, said:

"The humanitarian disaster in Gaza continues, and we urge all parties to return to a ceasefire, end the horrific suffering, and secure the release of all hostages.

"It is unacceptable for these vast quantities of aid to wait at the border - the UK is ready to provide more through our partners, and we call on the Israeli government to allow more aid to enter safely and securely. The insufficient amounts of supplies that are entering cause horrifying and chaotic scenes, as civilians in desperate need of assistance seek tiny amounts of it.

"The UK supports the UN and other humanitarian partners who are providing the much-needed support in the most difficult circumstances. Our announcement today helps to meet that urgent need, but it cannot assist if Israel does not allow the flow of aid into Gaza."
The United Kingdom is the largest donor to the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs' pooled fund in 2025, indicating the government's commitment to taking a leading role in alleviating the suffering of the people of Gaza.

This funding is part of the UK's official development assistance budget for the occupied Palestinian territories, which totals £101 million this financial year, of which £60 million will be dedicated to providing life-saving humanitarian support. In addition to providing humanitarian relief, the official development assistance from the UK in the occupied Palestinian territories supports Palestinian economic development and enhances governance and reform in the Palestinian Authority.

The UK urges Israel to reconsider its plan to escalate its military operations, while continuing to push for an immediate ceasefire, the release of all hostages, and the immediate flow of aid into Gaza.
