Unlicensed Internet Network Linked to an Israeli Company Discovered in Ramallah and Al-Bireh
SadaNews - The teams of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority, in cooperation with the Customs Control Department, discovered a local company distributing internet service using wireless communication (Wi-Fi) technology, after being provided the service from an Israeli telecommunications company, in the Ramallah and Al-Bireh governorate as part of the periodic regulatory rounds conducted by the authority.
The operation was based on information received from the Customs Control Department, prompting the authority's teams to immediately move to the location, where all equipment and devices used in providing the service illegally were seized and secured, in preparation for completing the necessary legal procedures against the violators.
In a statement, engineer Laith Draghmeh, the executive director of the authority, confirmed that dealing with Israeli telecommunications companies constitutes a clear violation of the provisions of the law and the regulations governing the telecommunications sector, and it undermines Palestinian digital sovereignty, which is punishable by law.
Eng. Draghmeh urged all internet service providers and distributors to comply with the laws and regulations, emphasizing that the authority will continue its campaigns and regulatory efforts and will not tolerate any violations that threaten the security of networks or harm the Palestinian market.
