Is Death Awaiting the Order to Kidnap Prisoner Marwan Barghouti?

Information has surfaced about consultations taking place to form a unified electoral list that includes close associates of prisoner Marwan Barghouti, figures from Fatah who have recently faced exclusion and marginalization, along with other independent and leftist individuals in preparation for the Palestinian legislative elections. According to these reports, the consultations aim to establish a "national coalition" based on a unified vision to confront the occupation, supporting Barghouti's candidacy for the presidential elections if they take place. It was noted that "it is not expected that the participating figures will object to adopting this option,” highlighting that among the prominent Fatah figures involved in these consultations are Ahmad Ghanem, Saeed Yaqeen, Qadoura Fares, Luay Abed, and Ehab Bseiso, along with independent and leftist figures like Jihad Harb, Omar Assaf, and Mustafa Barghouti.

The information also indicates that the ongoing tension between President Mahmoud Abbas and Central Committee member of the Fatah Movement, Major General Jibril Rajoub, may negatively affect the electoral scene, potentially leading Rajoub to take a stance opposing the management of the electoral file.

Additionally, it was reported that the circle of consultations regarding the electoral file management by President Abbas is limited to a small number of close associates, including Hussein Al-Sheikh, Majid Farraj, Mohammad Shtayyeh, Majdi Khaldi, Yasser Abbas, and Wael Lafi. Among those mentioned, there are names aspiring to compete for the presidency in the post-Mahmoud Abbas era.

What has been mentioned above carries numerous contradictions that could undermine the consultations, especially those relating to the support of all the individuals mentioned for Barghouti's candidacy for the presidency!! It largely aligns with the human rights reports indicating the looming danger to Barghouti's life, who is subjected to a policy of "slow death" and unprecedented oppression and torture imposed by the Israeli occupying authorities, which can only be described as a systematic assassination attempt and political liquidation. Barghouti has faced a series of violations and violent assaults in solitary confinement cells that reach the level of slow death, accompanied by official threats of liquidation and continuous incitement campaigns led by the so-called Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, who invaded his cell months ago and threatened him with execution, not to mention Barghouti’s exclusion and the insistence on excluding him on several occasions without any effective and pressuring Palestinian, Arab, or international intervention, from prisoner exchange deals and the deliberate act of keeping him in prolonged periods of harsh solitary confinement.

What Barghouti experienced a few days ago when one of the prison guards fired a rubber bullet at his leg, causing him bleeding and a painful injury, coincides with the expansion of the international campaign "Freedom for Marwan, Freedom for Palestine" and the joining of global figures and leaders to it, receiving significant official and popular response worldwide. This comes as part of the systematic campaign to liquidate Barghouti and what he represents in thought that contradicts the occupation policy in all its steps!!

Close associates of prisoner Marwan Barghouti have expressed their fears that such consultations might be a form of "deception" from those who dislike Barghouti, including some close to President Mahmoud Abbas, to circumvent Barghouti's candidacy, which enjoys wide popularity among Fatah members especially, and among the Palestinian Arab people of various spectrums for the presidency, clarifying that the "deception" lies in not holding the legislative and presidential elections concurrently, especially since these elections come in response to pressures and not out of a genuine desire to renew legitimacies and break through the dark tunnel that the Palestinian leadership has entered, threatening the Palestinian presence and the liquidation of the Palestinian cause. This approach, according to legal readings and political analyses from Barghouti's close associates, aims to create legal and political obstacles that hinder his victory or at least neutralize his extensive influence among Palestinians.

In closed discussions, a number of official steps and scenarios are being circulated, viewed as mechanisms to circumvent Barghouti's candidacy. For instance, the issue of separating the elections is interpreted as a precursor to delaying them to ensure the current leadership structures maintain control over the authority and organization, preventing the legislative elections from turning into an early popular referendum for Barghouti. Some legal experts have interpreted the amendments to the candidacy conditions as restrictions, particularly those related to residency (due to his imprisonment) or requiring the approval of official leadership bodies (the PLO) to pass specific candidates, or preparing official electoral lists aligned with the "old guard" or the influential figures in the authority to siphon off Fatah votes and disperse them, instead of agreeing on nominating a figure who enjoys organizational consensus from Fatah and popular support, like Marwan Barghouti.

Multiple indicators suggest that prisoner Marwan Barghouti is being systematically targeted with premeditated intent, a targeting that may reach the level of liquidation!! So has his time come, God forbid, is death awaiting the right moment before issuing the order for his liquidation? And has the absence of prisoner Barghouti from the upcoming scene become an unavoidable matter for the urgent interest of the Israeli occupation and its accomplices among foreigners, Arabs, and brethren, who view him as a unifier and savior for the Palestinians from the paralysis and failure that has become the means for Israelis to exploit in forwarding their plans and policies aimed at erasing the Palestinian national identity and presence!!
