International Maritime Organization: The Strait of Hormuz Remains Highly Dangerous for Commercial Ships
SadaNews - Bloomberg reported that the Secretary-General of the International Maritime Organization, Arsenio Dominguez, stated that the Strait of Hormuz remains highly dangerous for commercial ships.
He added that 6,000 seafarers are still trapped in the strait, affirming his support for voluntary measures that enhance navigational safety in the Strait of Hormuz.
Dominguez confirmed that there is no legal basis under international law to impose fees or mandatory payments for crossing the Strait of Hormuz.
He said: "I will emphasize the necessity of adhering to international law and that countries should follow the organization's lead and that companies should avoid, at this stage, especially with this volatility, the risk of crossing the Strait of Hormuz."
