Axios: The U.S. military carried out multiple strikes against Iranian targets
SadaNews - Axios revealed on Sunday that the U.S. military carried out several strikes against Iranian targets and systems.
The site quoted a U.S. official as saying that "the U.S. military executed several strikes targeting missile and air defense systems, in addition to small boats belonging to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, at two locations around the Strait of Hormuz".
For its part, Iranian media reported that missiles were launched towards the Iranian island of Qeshm, and no casualties were reported.
The Iranian news agency IRNA, quoting Qeshm Governor Hosein Amir Taimouri, stated that between 10 and 11 shells hit Qeshm Island since Sunday evening.
Taimouri added, in an interview with IRNA, that all the targets were military, and these attacks resulted in no casualties.
Earlier, the U.S. military announced on Sunday that it had launched strikes against Iran in response to an attack that targeted a civilian ship in the Strait of Hormuz.
The U.S. Central Command "CENTCOM" stated that the U.S. military conducted a new round of strikes on Iran after Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces attacked a container ship flying the flag of Cyprus that was transiting the Strait of Hormuz.
CENTCOM mentioned in a statement: "One of the civilian crew members is missing, and the ship is unable to continue its journey due to a fire that broke out on board and significant damage to the engine room".
CENTCOM confirmed that the strikes were carried out under the direction of U.S. President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Central Command stated that it hit around 140 targets in these strikes, which is a significantly larger number than in the last two rounds, targeting missile launch sites, drone bases, ammunition depots, communication equipment, and other locations.
It added that the attacks "undermine Iran's ability to attack civilian mariners and commercial ships that transit freely through the strait".
This new exchange of gunfire in the Arabian Gulf comes after U.S. President Donald Trump indicated that the temporary agreement in the Iranian war has "ended".
The U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth posted on social media, saying: "Iran made a bad choice. And now they are paying the price".
