Trump: We have dealt strong blows to Iran.. and the Strait of Hormuz is still open

SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed on Sunday that the United States has dealt "severe blows" to Iran, noting that the Strait of Hormuz remains open for navigation, despite Tehran's earlier announcement to close the strategic waterway amid renewed exchanges of strikes with Washington.

In an interview with NBC, Trump stated that the strategic strait is open, while the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) has confirmed that the international waterway is accessible to all ships wishing to pass legally.

CENTCOM added that its forces are stationed and ready to ensure the continuation of freedom of navigation, emphasizing that Iran does not control the Strait of Hormuz, and that commercial shipping traffic is proceeding normally.

Trump's statements come after Iran announced that no ship will cross the Strait of Hormuz without prior authorization, a move that escalates tensions around one of the most important maritime corridors in the world.

This follows Tehran's announcement on Sunday of closing the Strait of Hormuz after it targeted U.S. military bases in neighboring Gulf countries with missiles and drones, on the heels of a new round of strikes carried out by the United States on areas along the Iranian coast, which they said was in response to an attack by the Revolutionary Guard on a commercial ship crossing the Strait of Hormuz.

These new tensions could threaten to undermine the memorandum of understanding signed between Tehran and Washington in mid-June, aimed at ending the war that erupted in the Middle East following a U.S. and Israeli attack on Iran on February 28.
