Occupation Police Claim to Foil Stabbing Attempt in Lod
SadaNews - Israeli Channel 12 reported that "police forces shot at a person in the city of Lod who attempted to stab an Israeli policeman."
The channel added that the assailant - believed to be an Arab not residing in Israel - tried to stab an officer from the "Yasam" unit, a special unit of the Israeli border police, but police officers fired at him, resulting in his death.
Israeli army radio quoted a source in the Israeli police stating, "We shot at a person who tried to stab one of our members without any injuries among our forces."
The source added that a security patrol suspected a person carrying a knife and asked him to stop; however, he fled and attempted to attack its members, prompting them to neutralize him immediately, according to him.
Israeli media published a recording from the scene of the stabbing in Lod, showing Israeli forces surrounding what appears to be the body of the assailant.
Israeli Channel 14 stated that the assailant is likely from the West Bank, confirming that the police classify the incident as a "terrorist act."
The Israeli police did not provide details regarding the identity of the Palestinian or the circumstances of the incident, and there were no immediate testimonies from Palestinian eyewitnesses regarding the event.
This comes amid ongoing Israeli escalation in the occupied West Bank through the military and settlers since October 2023, resulting in the martyrdom of more than 1,173 Palestinians, thousands injured, and the detention of approximately 23,000.
