Newspaper: Trump Preferred Diplomacy Over All-Out War with Iran

SadaNews - The "Wall Street Journal" reported that U.S. President Donald Trump believes that new comprehensive attacks against Tehran could hinder the chances of dismantling the Iranian nuclear program.

The newspaper cited officials as saying that Trump is "currently satisfied with limited strikes against Iran when it violates the memorandum of understanding."

The paper added, according to the same sources, that Trump "reviewed options for all-out war against Iran but chose to stick to the diplomatic path."

The article continued, stating that Trump "does not mind surpassing Tehran's August 18 deadline for reaching a nuclear agreement."

U.S. Vice President JD Vance stated on Tuesday that the United States must ensure the elimination of the Iranian nuclear program through continuous inspections.

In comments during a television interview, Vance said: "Trump asked us to use the memorandum of understanding with Iran to replenish the global economy with oil and then see how things develop."

Vance pointed out that Trump "wanted to rearrange the cards with Iran to see where the pressure points are and where progress can be made."

He continued, saying: "Things have changed significantly with Iran; their military capabilities are lesser, their economy is weaker, and Israel and Lebanon are now speaking to each other."

He emphasized that Trump "wants the negotiation process with Tehran to continue with verifiable commitments," adding: "We want permanent commitments from Iran."

During an interview with "Fox News," Vance said: "I believe the United States is in an excellent position regardless of the final negotiation outcome. If the negotiations are successful, which we all hope for, we will witness a drastic transformation in Iran; however, if the Iranians do not adhere to their conditions, their nuclear program and military will remain destructive, and the United States will remain in a much stronger position than the Iranians."
