US Shoots Down Two Iranian Drones Threatening Navigation in the Strait of Hormuz
SadaNews - The US military announced on Sunday that it had shot down two Iranian attack drones on Saturday that were threatening navigation in the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
The US Central Command, "Centcom," stated on the platform "X" that American forces "shot down two one-way Iranian attack drones that were threatening international maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz."
It also added that "American forces remain on high alert and are ready to continue defending against Iranian aggression."
This announcement came as Iranian attacks on Kuwait and Bahrain renewed on Friday as part of targeting American bases, despite indicators in the past few days suggesting cautious progress in negotiations between Washington and Tehran.
Tensions have escalated again with the US military's announcement on Friday of targeting radar monitoring sites in southern Iran after shooting down four Iranian drones, which Washington said posed a threat to civil maritime navigation in the Strait of Hormuz.
Following this, alarm sirens were heard across Kuwait and Bahrain, and explosions were reported in both countries.
Meanwhile, the Iranian Revolutionary Guard announced that it had targeted "enemy bases in the region" with missiles in response to what it described as an "American invasion" of the Sirik and Qeshm islands.
The US Central Command (Centcom) reported that Iran launched 7 ballistic missiles towards Kuwait and Bahrain, indicating that air defenses intercepted 6 of them, while the seventh missed its target. It added: "There are currently no reports of casualties among US forces, and Iranian claims of damaging the US Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain are false."
US President Donald Trump expressed on Friday his belief that negotiations with the Iranian side are progressing successfully, affirming that Tehran will never possess nuclear weapons. In response to reporters' questions, he stated: "We are making great progress with Iran... They will not have nuclear weapons... They are not in a position to possess them."
