Public Prosecutor's Statement Against Two Suspects in the Attempted Assassination of the Mayor of Arraba and His Deputy

SadaNews - The Public Prosecution has issued a statement against two suspects in the case of the attempted assassination of the Mayor of Arraba, Dr. Ahmad Nassar, and his deputy, in preparation for presenting a serious indictment against them in the coming days.

Israeli occupation police stated this Thursday morning that investigations conducted by the central unit "Yamar" revealed the circumstances of the shooting incident that occurred on the evening of March 8, 2026, when the mayor and his deputy were shot at while sitting in a bakery in the city of Arraba.

The shooting resulted in the mayor being hit by seven bullets, his injuries described as serious, while his deputy sustained moderate injuries.

According to the police statement, the background of the case relates to disputes over waste collection tenders in the city, amidst repeated changes in the waste collection companies by the municipality, in addition to incidents of arson targeting two waste collection trucks in recent times.

The police added that the investigation, which became public on April 14, 2026, led to the arrest of several suspects, while the investigation materials showed evidence against a 56-year-old resident of Arraba, who is a relative of the mayor, on suspicion of having sent the shooter, a 25-year-old young man from the city, to carry out the attack.

The police confirmed that the central unit in the northern district continues to complete the investigation procedures in preparation for presenting the official indictment against the suspects.
