US Army: The blockade on Iran continues fully

SadaNews - While a relatively calm situation prevailed around the Strait of Hormuz on Saturday, following days of scattered clashes between Iran and the United States, the US Army confirmed that the maritime blockade on Iranian ports continues fully.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM) stated in a post on its "X" account on Saturday that the maritime blockade imposed on Iran is ongoing.

The statement also noted that US forces have redirected 58 commercial vessels and disrupted 4 ships since April 13, in order to prevent them from entering or leaving Iranian ports.

Largest escalation

This comes after last Thursday night witnessed the largest escalation in fighting within and around the Strait of Hormuz since the ceasefire began last month.

Scattered clashes also erupted yesterday, Friday, between Iranian forces and US ships in the Strait of Hormuz, according to the Tasnim news agency.

The US military reported that it targeted two vessels linked to Tehran that were attempting to enter an Iranian port, striking both ships' smokestacks with an American fighter jet and forcing them to turn back.

Since the outbreak of the war between Iran on one side, and the US and Israel on the other, Tehran has largely prevented non-Iranian ships from passing through the vital strait, which once carried one-fifth of the world's oil supply.

Meanwhile, the United States has imposed a blockade on Iranian ships and ports since April 13, following the failure of the first round of US-Iranian negotiations held in Islamabad to reach an agreement.

Additionally, Tehran is expected to deliver its response tonight regarding the latest US proposal to end the war and discuss the nuclear file in 30 days in a later phase.
