The Committee Concerned with the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People Discusses the Developments in the Situation in Palestine
SadaNews - A delegation from the United Nations Committee on the Exercise of the Inalienable Rights of the Palestinian People discussed the serious developments in Palestine during a meeting with ambassadors of member countries in the EU Political and Security Committee, focusing on the continuation of colonialism, the risks of the "E1" colonial plan, and the ongoing Israeli occupation's detention of clearance funds, and its repercussions on the ability of the Palestinian government to meet its obligations.
The delegation included the permanent representative of Senegal to the United Nations, Committee Chairman Ambassador Koli Seck, the permanent representative of Namibia, Vice Chairman Ambassador Bendabala Andreas Nanda, Deputy Permanent Representative of Cuba Ambassador Daylenis Moreno Guerra, Permanent Observer of the State of Palestine to the United Nations Minister Riyad Mansour, and Ambassador of the State of Palestine to the EU and Belgium and Luxembourg Amal Jadoo, in a meeting held at the permanent representation of Ireland to the EU, hosted by Irish Ambassador to the committee Luke Fenney.
The delegation emphasized the necessity for the EU to move from statements of condemnation to practical steps for accountability, including taking measures against colonialism and settlers, and reviewing trade relations with Israel in light of violations of international law and international humanitarian law.
Minister Mansour stressed that this stage represents a "crucial historical moment" that requires concrete actions to protect the two-state solution, prevent the undermining of the Palestinian National Authority, and maintain the prospect of a just and lasting peace.
For their part, ambassadors from several member states expressed their concerns regarding the deterioration of the situation, emphasizing the importance of supporting the Palestinian Authority, protecting international law, and continuing European efforts to stop the escalation and maintain the possibility of achieving a two-state solution.
The meeting concluded with an emphasis on the importance of the partnership between Palestine and the EU and the pivotal role that Europe can play in defending international law and protecting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people.
The delegation also held a press conference organized by the United Nations Regional Information Centre for Western Europe (UNRIC) in Brussels.
During the conference, delegation members reviewed the latest developments in the occupied Palestinian territories and the diplomatic efforts undertaken to mobilize international support for protecting the inalienable rights of the Palestinian people, ending the Israeli occupation, and establishing an independent State of Palestine on the June 4, 1967 borders.
The delegation also met with the EU Special Representative for the Middle East Peace Process Christoph Beygo at the premises of the European External Action Service, during which international efforts aimed at maintaining the two-state solution and preparations for upcoming international meetings were discussed, including the path associated with the New York Declaration and the international coalition for implementing the two-state solution.
Mansour emphasized during the meeting that the current stage requires a transition from political positions to practical and tangible steps, stressing that Israel continues to undermine the two-state solution through colonialism, racist legislation, and systematic violations of international law, including towards the Palestinian people, its leadership, and national institutions.
Mansour also called on the EU to take more decisive actions consistent with its declared commitments to protect international law and human rights.
For his part, Beygo reaffirmed the EU's commitment to the two-state solution and its rejection of colonialism and unilateral actions, noting ongoing European discussions regarding taking further steps, including those related to settlements and their products, politically and financially supporting the Palestinian National Authority, and working with international and Arab partners to maintain a feasible political horizon.
The meeting also addressed the importance of expediting the release of financial support designated for the Palestinian Authority in light of the severe financial crisis it faces, along with the emphasis on the need to continue Palestinian-European coordination in the upcoming phase, especially before the anticipated international meetings in New York.
