Iran: Washington Struggles to Abandon Its Hardline Demands
SadaNews - While Pakistani efforts continue to mediate between the US and Iran in order to reach an agreement to halt the war, Tehran believes that Washington finds it difficult to abandon what it describes as hardline demands.
The spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Ismail Baghaei, stated at a press conference today, Monday, that "America finds it hard to abandon its hardline demands."
The spokesperson also held the American side responsible for the slow pace of diplomatic efforts to end the war.
"Excessive Demands"
He also clarified that Tehran "received the US response via Pakistan," yet noted that "America does not easily give up its habit of making unreasonable excessive demands." He added, "We are still facing a party that constantly changes its positions and presents matters that practically hinder any diplomatic process." He emphasized that "the topics raised regarding uranium enrichment are nothing but speculations," adding that his country "is not talking at this stage about anything other than the complete halt and end of the war."
Additionally, Baghaei mentioned that "bilateral talks are still ongoing with Oman regarding a protocol for safe passage of ships through the Strait of Hormuz."
"Very Positive Discussions"
This comes after US President Donald Trump announced that American officials are having "very positive discussions" with the Iranian side regarding potential steps to end the war.
He also hinted in a post on his platform "Truth Social" last night that "discussions with Tehran might lead to positive results for everyone."
Meanwhile, informed sources revealed that negotiations between Washington and Tehran have made noticeable progress recently, according to Pakistani media reports.
It is worth mentioning that Islamabad, which is mediating between the American and Iranian sides, held a lengthy round of direct talks between Tehran and Washington in the first week of last April, but it did not result in any agreement.
Pakistan continues its efforts to bridge the gaps between the two sides, handing over the new Iranian proposal to Washington and delivering the Iranian response to Tehran, which has begun to study it.
