From the Golan to the Qana Field.. This is How Israel Militarily Utilizes the Terrain of Syria and Lebanon

SadaNews - The areas defined by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as the "yellow line" in southern Syria and Lebanon hold exceptional military and strategic importance, going beyond mere field positioning to an attempt to impose a new security reality based on geographical and technological superiority.

According to a report broadcast by Al Jazeera journalist Mahmoud Al-Khann, this line represents a "forward defense area" through which Israel seeks to prevent any potential attacks.

Mount Sheikh Peak

The military importance centers on the complete control of Mount Sheikh from both its Syrian and Lebanese sides, as it provides - being the highest point in the area at an elevation of 2800 meters - the advantage of "broad geographical visibility" over vast areas that include:

The Syrian capital Damascus: located only 40 kilometers away.

Lebanese depth: visibility over the Bekaa Valley and southern Lebanon, in addition to northern Israel, where this elevation grants the controlling forces a fire advantage and the ability to monitor movements without geographical obstructions.

Field Positioning in Syria and Lebanon

In Syria: The yellow line extends from the junction of the Jordanian borders with the occupied Golan up to Mount Sheikh, covering an area exceeding 23,000 hectares, which was previously occupied by the United Nations peacekeeping forces.

Since 1967, Israel has occupied most of the Golan area and exploited the situation in Syria following the fall of Bashar al-Assad's regime, thereby occupying the Syrian buffer zone and declaring the collapse of the disengagement agreement between the two sides from 1974.

In Lebanon: The yellow line stretches along the border strip to a depth of up to 10 kilometers and an area covering more than 65,000 hectares, reaching the Mediterranean Sea.

Electronic Surveillance and Technical Superiority

The importance does not cease at the mountainous terrain but extends to the coast, as the line reaches the "Qana Gas Field" in the sea, where the occupying army seeks to transform the area into an advanced technical hub.

This location is ideal for installing radar systems, listening stations, early warning systems, and communication towers. These installations grant the occupation an exceptional ability to:

Monitor air traffic and electronic jamming.

Track military movements before they reach the Israeli forces.

With this scheme, Israel aims to transform the natural terrain in Syria and Lebanon into a protective wall, and advanced monitoring and warning tools that grant it an advantage and battlefield superiority in any future confrontation.

On Thursday evening, U.S. President Donald Trump announced a ceasefire in Lebanon for 10 days following what he described as excellent talks with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun and Netanyahu, calling on both sides to come to the White House for "the first serious discussions between Israel and Lebanon since 1983."
