The U.S. State Department stated in a release that the Muslim Brotherhood and Hamas use organizations that serve as fronts to transfer funds across multiple jurisdictions to finance activities related to terrorism. It added that the new sanctions reveal a network of institutions and organizations affiliated with the Muslim Brotherhood and connected to Hamas, which, according to the statement, rely on charities as a cover and secret financial networks to conceal and transfer funds to support the movement's activities. The U.S. State Department confirmed that this step is part of Washington's commitment to dismantling the financial infrastructure supporting Hamas and the Muslim Brotherhood, aligning with the United States' counterterrorism strategy. The department clarified that the sanctions were imposed under Executive Order 13224 as amended, related to counterterrorism, indicating that the U.S. Department of the Treasury will publish further details regarding the individuals and entities involved in the measures.
