Tehran Responds: Trump Threatens to Use Iranian Funds to Compensate Damaged Ships
SadaNews - U.S. President Donald Trump announced late Thursday - Friday that damages inflicted on ships attacked by Iran in the Gulf will be compensated from Iranian assets frozen in the United States.
Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform saying, "Let this statement serve as a declaration, from now until further notice, any damages that occur to ships or goods or anything related to them will be compensated from the Iranian funds that are in the possession of the United States and under its control."
Meanwhile, Tehran described Trump's threat as a "precedent that escalates the situation."
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated on the "X" platform that "seizing the assets of another state to settle unrelated future claims is a precedent that escalates the situation."
