Man Stabs Two People in New York While Shouting 'Allahu Akbar'

SadaNews - A man stabbed two people in New York while shouting "Allahu Akbar," before the police were able to arrest him, local officials reported late Thursday - Friday.

Jessica Tisch, the New York Police Commissioner, revealed on platform X that the two victims of the stabbings in separate attacks near Central Park in Manhattan were a "man of Asian descent and another Jewish man," adding that they were hospitalized and their lives are not in danger. The New York Police arrested the suspect identified as Raul Morales, who is 51 years old.

Tisch stated, "Investigators continue to work on the case and determine the motive, but according to the statements of the victims and witnesses, Morales shouted Allahu Akbar during the attacks," noting that the New York Police are currently examining whether the incident falls under hate crimes. Tisch added that the suspect does not have a history of mental illness in police records.

However, the city's Mayor, Zahran Mamdani, pointed out in a separate post on platform X that "preliminary investigations suggest that mental health may have been a factor in the incident." Mamdani wrote, "There is no place for these despicable and outrageous attacks in our city," adding that the condition of the victims is "stable."
