Israeli Soldier Killed and 9 Injured in a Bomb Explosion in Southern Lebanon
SadaNews - The Israeli occupation army announced today, Sunday, the death of a soldier in an explosion in southern Lebanon, adding that 9 other soldiers were wounded with varying degrees of injuries, one of them severely.
Israeli media reported that the soldiers belong to Brigade 769, deployed in the Upper Galilee areas and operating within the first line of defense along the border with Lebanon.
According to Israeli army radio, the incident occurred when a military vehicle drove over a land mine or a powerful explosive device believed to be planted by Hezbollah, resulting in the explosion.
Reports indicated that the army has opened an investigation into the incident, focusing on determining the timing of the device's planting in that area.
The army acknowledged yesterday, Saturday - on the second day of the ceasefire - that it conducted several attacks in Lebanese territory, justifying them as "thwarting threats to its forces and preventing threats to northern towns."
Media reports indicated that the Israeli army carried out 12 attacks in southern Lebanon on Saturday, while the Israeli army accused Hezbollah of "violating the ceasefire agreement," stating in two statements that it targeted two Hezbollah cells via airstrikes claiming it was to "thwart a threat to its forces and prevent a direct threat to northern towns."
The list of Israeli violations also included warplanes flying over the eastern sector, releasing thermal balloons over the western and central sectors, and low-altitude drone flights over Marjeyoun district.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that its aircraft killed members of a cell in southern Lebanon despite the ongoing ceasefire with Hezbollah.
An Israeli army statement revealed that the air force conducted a raid that resulted in the elimination of what it described as "a terrorist cell operating near its forces in the frontline defense area, in order to prevent a direct threat to northern towns," without offering additional details.
It also acknowledged launching artillery strikes to support its ground forces in the area, claiming to have destroyed what it termed as terrorist infrastructure. It justified its attacks as "the right to take necessary measures for self-defense against threats as stipulated in the ceasefire agreement."
The ceasefire agreement includes a clause that Israel might use to justify its attacks, as it states that "Israel reserves the right to take all necessary measures for self-defense at any time, against planned, imminent, or ongoing attacks, and this right shall not be restricted by the cessation of hostilities."
