Gaza.. Warning of the Danger of Continued Spread of Harmful Insects and Rodents

SadaNews - The Gaza Municipality warned of the ongoing crisis of harmful insects and rodents and its serious implications for citizens' lives. The municipality renewed its plea to international organizations and the World Health Organization for urgent response and provision of emergency needs, insecticides, and materials necessary for combating these pests.

The municipality explained that the continued health and environmental crises in the city, the accumulation of large amounts of waste in the city center, the significant destruction of infrastructure and facilities, the displacement crisis, and the resulting severe overcrowding and deterioration of living conditions and tents, as well as wastewater leaking into the streets, are all factors that have exacerbated the crisis.

The municipality indicated that it has sent urgent appeals to international organizations for immediate intervention and provision of insecticides and materials necessary to combat this epidemic. However, these efforts have not yielded any positive results so far. The municipality hopes that the concerned parties will respond to its calls as quickly as possible to avoid a dangerous situation and limit the spread of this pest.

The Gaza Municipality urged citizens to assist in combating this pest by sorting organic waste and food scraps and disposing of them properly in closed bags away from living areas. They also called for the elimination of stagnant water in areas where harmful insects and rodents breed. Additionally, the municipality advocated for implementing campaigns and initiatives to combat rodents in the most affected areas by providing wooden traps and others to alleviate the severity of the crisis amid a continued shortage of materials needed to combat this epidemic.
