Iran: Initial War Losses Amount to 270 Billion Dollars
SadaNews - The Tasnim agency reported, quoting Iranian government spokesperson Fatemeh Mohajerani, that compensating for war losses is one of the topics being followed by the Iranian team in negotiations in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, noting that the preliminary assessment of losses amounts to 270 billion dollars, a figure that is not final.
Iran officially requested the United Nations to demand Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Jordan to pay compensation for the damages incurred due to their role in the American-Israeli operation against it, according to its statement.
Iran's permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeed Iravani, directed the letter to the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres.
The letter stated: "The Kingdom of Bahrain, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the State of Qatar, the United Arab Emirates, and the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan are required to pay compensation for the damages suffered by the Islamic Republic of Iran, including compensation for all material and moral losses resulting from their actions that are contrary to international law."
Iravani clarified in the letter that "the aforementioned countries did not only allow their territories to be used for aggression against Iran, but in some cases, directly participated in the implementation of illegal armed attacks against civilian targets inside Iran," as he put it.
The Iranian representative continued: "The behavior of these countries in allowing their territories to be used against Iran is a form of aggression," as he expressed.
Iran and the United States began negotiations in Islamabad last Saturday, following an announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump of a two-week truce after a military escalation that lasted about 40 days; however, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance stated that "the two sides were unable to reach an agreement," as he said.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ismail Bakai explained that "an understanding was reached on several issues, but positions remained distant regarding two or three key points," as he expressed.
For his part, Trump announced yesterday, Monday, that the United States "will begin a blockade on all ships attempting to enter or exit the Strait of Hormuz," and he also instructed the U.S. Navy to track and intercept all ships that pay fees to Iran for passage, as he stated.
Earlier, the U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) pledged to begin the blockade on "all maritime movements entering and exiting Iranian ports" at 14:00 GMT yesterday, Monday.
