Trump: Iran Strongly Wants to Reach an Agreement
SadaNews - Today (Monday), U.S. President Donald Trump stated that Iran strongly wants to reach an agreement, and that he will not approve any agreement that allows Tehran to possess nuclear weapons.
Trump added that 34 ships crossed the Strait of Hormuz yesterday (Sunday), according to a report by the "Reuters" news agency.
He explained that talks regarding nuclear issues have reached a dead end, indicating the start of "enforcement" on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
He noted that Iran "made contact this morning" with the Americans, and that the Iranians "desperately want to reach an agreement."
In statements to reporters at the White House, he said, "Iran will not possess nuclear weapons... We cannot allow any country to blackmail or exploit the world."
The U.S. military began on Monday to implement a ban on navigation to Iranian ports in the Gulf, following the collapse of peace talks in Pakistan, placing the blame on Iran for refusing to abandon its nuclear ambitions.
According to Washington, the blockade started at 14:00 GMT today (Monday) and will affect all ships heading to or departing from Iranian ports.
The U.S. President earlier on Monday warned that any Iranian ship approaching the range of the imposed American blockade on Iranian ports would be "immediately destroyed."
Trump wrote on "Truth Social": "What we have not targeted is the small number of their ships (Iranian ships) that they call fast attack boats, as we did not consider them a significant threat."
He added: "Warning: If any of these ships approach our blockade, they will be immediately eliminated, using the same methods of annihilation that we use against drug traffickers on boats at sea. It's quick and decisive."
